2025 Awardees

IMPACT AWARD Brian Trelstad, Bridges Fund Management

Brian Trelstad is a Partner and Board Member of Bridges Fund Management, an impact investment firm founded in Europe in 2002 and active in the United States since 2012. Brian has helped to incubate countless field-building organizations and innovations in impact measurement and management, including Impact Capital Managers & the affiliated ICM Institute, where he is a founding board member. Brian has also dedicated himself to educating future impact investors and business leaders through his academic positions at Harvard.   

Previously, Brian served as the Chief Investment Officer at Acumen, overseeing investments across South Asia and Africa. Before joining Acumen, he worked as a healthcare consultant at McKinsey & Company and served as the lead environmental staff member at the Corporation for National Service. He has also played a key role in founding and advising a range of nonprofit and for-profit startups.

In addition to his investment work, Brian is a Senior Lecturer at Harvard Business School and the Faculty Chair of the Harvard Advanced Leadership Initiative.

 

LP LEADER Cynthia Muller, W. K. Kellogg Foundation

Cynthia leads the W.K. Kellogg Foundation’s (WKKF) mission-driven investments (MDI) portfolio, overseeing strategic impact investment activities that address systemic barriers faced by historically marginalized communities and children. Since its inception, the MDI program has committed more than $340 million in mission and program-related investments targeting market-rate financial returns to further WKKF’s mission.

Before joining WKKF, Cynthia developed and managed Arabella Advisors’ impact investing practice, designing strategies for foundations and individuals to drive social and environmental progress. Earlier in her career, she worked in community development finance and community-based healthcare, building her expertise in deploying capital to support equity-focused solutions.

Cynthia is a member of the LP Advisory Council at Impact Capital Managers, where she helps to promote shared priorities among general and limited partners, including best practices, effective regulation, and scaling impact with integrity. She is recognized for her leadership in mobilizing capital for impact and fostering a more inclusive financial system.

 

EMERGING LEADER Kendall Bedford, SustainVC

Kendall began her professional career as an ecologist but later transitioned into consulting. She currently serves in an impact investing role at SustainVC.

Before joining SustainVC, Kendall worked as a Project Manager at an early-stage project development and environmental consultancy firm. In 2021, she was selected as an Impact Capital Managers Mosaic Fellow and spent two summers with a sustainable infrastructure fund during her graduate studies. Kendall initially joined SustainVC as an Impact Fellow while pursuing her dual-degree Master of Environmental Studies and MBA and co-led Wharton Impact Investing Partners, a student-run fund. She has been with the SustainVC team since 2022. In 2024, in recognition of her commitment to fostering inclusivity within the impact investing community, Kendall was invited to co-chair the Impact Capital Managers Talent & Diversity Working Group.

Kendall chose to pursue a career in impact investing because she wanted to use her position to amplify the voices of those historically excluded from important conversations. She wants to continue fostering inclusive discussions that promote a more sustainable and equitable world for everyone.


2024 Awardees

IMPACT AWARD Nancy Pfund, DBL Partners

Nancy Pfund is Founder and Managing Partner of DBL Partners, a pioneer and leading player in impact investing that has helped reveal the power of venture capital to promote social change and environmental improvement.

Nancy sponsors or sits on the board of directors of several companies, including: Zola Electric, Bellwether Coffee, Spatial, Rain, Mast Reforestation, Farmers Business Network, and, prior to their public offerings, Tesla Motors, SolarCity, and Pandora. She also serves on the board of the National Geographic Society. Prior to founding DBL, Nancy was a Managing Director in Venture Capital at JPMorgan, having started her investment career at Hambrecht & Quist. Nancy was recognized by Forbes 50 Over 50 and the San Francisco Business Times as a Bay Area 100 Most Influential Business Leader in 2023, and as the Financial Woman of the Year by Financial Women of San Francisco in 2022.

 

LP LEADER Mark Berryman, Caprock

Mark Berryman is a Managing Director at Caprock. Mark leads Caprock’s impact and sustainable investment business and supports the management of impact-focused family and foundation clients. Mark has over 20 years of experience in impact investing and emerging markets finance; he is a member of the Impact Assets 50 Investment Committee and is the inaugural chair of the ICM LP Advisory Council.

He is also a current Adjunct Professor for impact investing at the Columbia University Graduate School of Business. Prior to joining Caprock, Mark spent over 10 years as a Lead Investment Officer with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) of the World Bank Group where he focused on investing in financial institutions and funds (private equity, venture capital, and private debt) mainly operating in emerging markets.

Mark began his career over two decades ago as a three-year Peace Corps Volunteer in Mali, West Africa, and has held other positions at eBay, the Multi-lateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), and the Microfinance Information Exchange.

 

EMERGING LEADER Adrianna Alterman, Salesforce Ventures Impact Fund

Adrianna Alterman is a Principal on the Salesforce Ventures Impact Fund. Salesforce Ventures, the venture capital arm of Salesforce, invests in the next generation of enterprise cloud companies. With over 400 investments into companies like Zoom, Stripe, and Snowflake, Salesforce Ventures helps companies scale their B2B platforms. The Salesforce Ventures Impact Fund is a portfolio fund within Salesforce Ventures that focuses on climate tech, edtech, workforce development, and digital health. 

Adrianna was previously a Senior Associate at Amplify Capital, an early-stage impact VC fund, and was on the impact investing team at MaRS, Canada’s largest entrepreneurship center.

She started her career in politics at an economic think tank, in the US Senate, and for President Obama’s campaign. Adrianna has a Bachelor’s degree from McGill University and an MBA from Yale. 


2023 Awardees

IMPACT AWARD Dave Kirkpatrick, SJF Ventures

Dave Kirkpatrick is a Managing Director and co-founder of SJF Ventures, which focuses on high growth, positive impact ventures. Dave helped lead SJF’s capitalization of four funds totaling $435 million starting in 1999. Prior to SJF, Dave founded and managed two other successful enterprises – KirkWorks, a cleantech investment research firm; and SunShares, a solar energy and recycling company. Dave was named the 2005 CDVC Practitioner of the Year by the Community Development Venture Capital Alliance and Recycler of the Year in 1996 by the National Recycling Coalition. Dave was a founding co-chair and serves on the board of Impact Capital Managers.

 

LP LEADER Roy Swan, Ford Foundation

Roy Swan is the inaugural head of the Ford Foundation’s Mission Investments program, which deploys endowment capital for market rate impact investments, program related investment capital for catalytic opportunities ranging from market rate to concessionary, and grant capital to support the global impact investing and Environmental, Social, and Governance ecosystems. Roy has served on numerous corporate and nonprofit boards and advisory committees, including Aequi Acquisition Corp., the Dalton School, Enterprise Community Partners, the KKR Sustainability Expert Advisory Council, LIIF, the Parnassus Funds, the SASB Foundation, and Varo Bank, among others.

 

EMERGING LEADER Cassidy Leventhal, Achieve Partners

Cassidy Leventhal is a Vice President at Achieve Partners and was formerly at University Ventures where she was named a Forbes 30 Under 30 in Education. She is a Director of Optimum Healthcare IT, Freedom Learning Group, and Ro Health, and is regularly featured in outlets and events focused on the future of education and work. Outside Achieve, Cassidy co-founded alternativestocollege.com and serves as co-chair for the Talent & Diversity Working Group at Impact Capital Managers. Prior to Achieve and UV, Cassidy was a consultant and Digital Product Owner at McKinsey & Company.
